Monitoring traffic safety - Longer and Heavier Vehicles (LHV's)

This research is conducted to keep tabs on road traffic safety in relation to Longer Heavier Vehicles. Longer and heavier vehicles (LHV's) are goods vehicles with a maximum weight of 60 tonne and a maximum length of 25.25 metres. Although previous research has given no cause for concern over the traffic safety of these types of vehicles, it is important to eliminate any possible risks accompanying the increase of the number of LHV. Analyses of recorded accident involving LHVs have been used to design a number of case studies, which, in turn, were tested against the experiences of LHV drivers and other experts, such as people working in highways management and road maintenance.
