Limits to predictability in traffic and transport
Explores the relationship between the limited possibilities to predict the future and the decision making process. The study is structured upon the following themes: processes that are ill-predictable and causes for ill-predictability, consequences of ill-predictability in terms of adaptation of the policy making process and in terms of increasing the predictive power of models, and the potential need for a paradigm shift. Contains among others the following papers: The problem definition tuned to practice / M. van Geenhuizen, H. van Zuylen (AVV) ; The ill-predictability of the occurrence of road traffic congestion / P. Bovy, S. Hoogendoorn ; Possibilities for innovative modelling to reduce ill-predictability / A. van der Hoorn (AVV), F. Middelham (AVV), P. Nijkamp.
