Rivers : influence of a sloping bed on the sediment transport direction : report on experimental investigations
An important element in the formulae used for computation of two dimensional bed deformation in rivers is the direction of the sediment transport, which generally differs from the depth averaged flow direction. The conclusion reached from the results is that in most formulae, found in relevant literature, the influence of the sloping bed is overestimated with a factor of about 2. As these formulations have been mainly based on curved flume data, it implies that the influence of the spiral flow is also overestimated significantly.
