Perspectives of fuzzy logic in traffic engineering : main document
Presents an outlook on perspectives of applying fuzzy logic techniques in traffic and transportation systems analysis and control. To this end, the theoretical and methodological principles of the fuzzy logic approach is outlined. An overview is given of binaries fuzzy logic applications in the transportation and traffic field, especially in the areas of: estimation and prediction of traffic engineering parameters ; modelling the behaviour of road users ; traffic control. A critical analysis and assessment is given of these applications leading to a list of strong and weak points of the fuzzy logic approach. Proposals are formulated for further research into the application of fuzzy logic techniques in the transportation and traffic domain.
