Overall architecture of the START model system
START stands for Simulation of Traffic for Application in Real-Time. The general objective of the START project is to develop a practical tool to predict traffic flows and travel times in real-time using the information provided by the On-line traffic monitoring system together with historic and network information. This report describes the architecture of this forecasting system and provides an overview of the methodologies used. In chapter 2 the context in which the START model will have to function is examined. This includes the interaction with the traffic measurement system, the systems own databases, and the potential users. In chapter 3 the model structure is briefly explained.
