Measures for target groups : carpooler, lorries, etc.
This paper deals with some practical measures to improve the accessibility to the economic centers of the Netherlands. The addition of extra traffic lanes only is not a sufficient solution in order to avoid negative effects of a constant expansion of car traffic on the environment and road safety. All the measures have to take place in a long term strategy aiming to limit the car mileage, to guide the mobility, to improve alternatives for the car, to offer selective accessibility by road and to make the vehicles cleaner and safer. The discussed measures are aimed at target groups as carpool vehicles, buses, business cars, etc. They include the measure of buses on the emergency lane, the construction of tidal flow lanes and of extra tunnel tubes exclusively for the target groups. Description and evaluation of these measures are made but further research is needed before implementation.
