An investigation of alternative methods to update forecasting models : including the use of Stated Preference Data : final report
Investigation of the potential for the use of Stated Preference methods to update forecasting models. Questions answered are the following. To what extent does new Revealed Preference (RP) data appear to support or reject models based on previous Revealed Preference data? What range of possibilities are available for updating and extending existing RP choice models? What range of Stated Preference (SP) approaches are available, and how should they be designed? How successful are approaches based on SP data, compared to simpler approaches which do not require the collection of new data, or to the most expensive alternative of estimating completely new models on new RP data? To answer these questions some survey experiments were undertaken, based on choices of travel-mode, route and departure time data from the Overdraagbaarheidstudie (OVD), the Value of Time (VOT) study and other studies. After the data collecting and processing the following analyses were undertaken, described in this report: initial analysis of the SP survey data, initial analysis of the Transfer Price (TP) survey data, initial analysis of the RP survey data, analysis related to the VOT study and analysis of the updating of forecasting models. This report ends with conclusions and recommendations.
