Individual car-following behaviour on motorways : a simulator study
Microscopic traffic simulation constitutes a useful method for assessing the effects of Dynamic Traffic Management measures or Intelligent Traffic Systems in advance of their actual implementation. A key component in these models is the driver model, which describes the dynamic behaviour of individual road users. This report describes a driving simulator experiment which was conducted to investigate car-following behaviour. The aim was to acquire more fundamental knowledge on this subject in order to be able to apply it in microscopic traffic simulation models. The microscopic model MIXIC was used as a reference.
