Implementation aspects : contribution to ATRACC 4 programme "Corridor Information& Control"
This reader focuses on the technical aspects of implementation of RTI projects (Road Transport Informatics). It starts with an overview of the political context in The Netherlands and a view on socio-political impacts of RTI implementation according to the DRIVE-I-project V1065 SIRIUS. The bulk of the reader is devoted to information on implementation and assessment of systems for dynamic traffic management: MCSS (Motorway Control and Signalling System), Breda fog detection and warning system, rampmetering (toeritdosering Coentunnel, Delft-Zuid, Zoetermeer-Oost), VMS system (Variable Message Sign) RIA (Route choice Information Amsterdam), speeds signs (for e.g. homogenisation). This is followed by a chapter on the application of the computerprogram "FLEXSYT". Describet here are a tidal flow example, a toll-plaza example, and a ramp-metering example. The last chapter looks to the future and sees a gradual implementation of ATT (Advanced Transport Telematics) - dynamic traffic management tools.
