HIS : Hoogwater Informatie Systeem : Flood Management System

After the floods of December 1993 and January 1995, several organisations in the Netherlands decided to develop a Flood Management System (HIS). The main purpose of the system is to provide water managers with quick and accurate information on the condition of dykes, the effects of possible breaches and the safety of the inhabitants in flood situations. Discusses issues such as: what information is needed in flood situations?; what is the purpose of the HIS?; who uses the HIS?; a closer look at the HIS as a data system; cooperation in and with the regions; project structure; timetable.
