An estimate for the road freight handling factor
Analysis of road freight transport is hindered by the lack of direct observations of the handling factor, i.e. the average number of times that the same tonnes are handled by different agents and also reported to the central statistical office. An econometric technique might be used to estimate what has not been observed, and thus to recover the hidden variables of both the handling factor and the actual amount of tonnes in transport.
