On the colour of case 2 waters particulate matter North Sea
In order to understand the colour of case 2 waters (in which algae and inorganic silt colour the water), a data set with many types of in-situ measurements was collected in the southern North Sea. Optical and non-optical measurements were carried out simultaneously during 6 surveys, covering the whole Dutch coastal zone including the Dover Straight and covering every season. Optical measurements were made of the total visible part of the elctro-magnetic spectrum. Over 120 stations were visited and all measurements were stored in an electronic database. In part 2 of this report a description is given of all instruments, calibration and measuring protocols and methodologies.
