Fact finding and experience exchange mission for the Saemangeum Project : Saemangeum Project, sea dike number 1

September 18 - 22, 2000, members of RWS Bouwdienst went for a mission on the Saemangeum tidal flat land reclamation project to South Korea. The main reason for land reclamation is to enlarge the area of the agricultural land. Against the land reclamation there is a growing resistance because of ecological concerns regarding fisheries and nature. The Delta-works in the Netherlands in the seventies can be compared with the situation today in South Korea, concerning economical, technical and environmental issues.
