Eutrophication of the North Sea in the Dutch coastal zone 1976-1990

This report gives a descriptive synthesis of present knowledge about the eutrophication of the Dutch North Sea. It is based on data from the Dutch monitoring programme and reviews the recent literature. The present quality status of the coastal zone has been evaluated in view of the policy of the North Sea States to reduce eutrophication. The input of nutrients to the North Sea via rivers is analysed over the period 1976-1990 and compared with reference years.
