Evaluating sight distances in highway design, a practical tool

In the process of road design, sight distances are of great importance for aspects of traffic flow and traffic safety. To obtain reliable and exact results, sight distances should be calculated in a three-dimensional space. Describes the calculation and evaluation of sight distances, using a new tool based on visualization techniques. The new sight distance application ZICHT, calculates sight distances in the horizontal and vertical alignment simultaneously in 3D and is suitable for both road design in daily practice and research purposes.
