Traffic and roads : DRIVE integrated systems : project number V 1018 - TARDIS : TARDIS executive summary
This paper presents the principal achievements and findings of the TARDIS project (Traffic and Roads - DRIVE Integrated Systems). It provides basic material for an analysis of functional requirements, as will be required by the DRIVE 2 pilot projects. There is a technological review of RTI systems (Road Transport Informatics) in each of the 7 TARDIS application areas (dynamic route guidance, urban and extra-urban traffic control, parking management and information, fleet management and information, public transport management and info, automatic debiting, tourist information) and a description of techniques developed and applied for the analysis of functional requirements. The technological reviews point to the main issues in system design, in particular the nature and possible locations of key functions within systems. The analysis centres on the TARSIM simulation model and a formal description technique which allows the representation of functions and information flows in a way that is fully compatible with TARSIM.
