Measuring systems for the evaluation of skid resistance and texture : part 1 : conduction of the experiment and comparison of the repeatability standard deviations : international experiment in 1996 in Germany and the Netherlands regarding friction and te
The measuring results of several devices to measure the skid resistance of pavements are compared on different types of surfacing. In particular the repeatability standard deviation of friction, of speed, and of texture has been analyzed. The objectives of the different countries participating in the project (Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark) are described. These objectives are summarized in the following questions: how is the performance at a speed higher than the usual speed?; how is the performance of the devices on 'open' pavements?; how is the performance on new porous asphalt when the bitumen film has not yet been worn away?; how is the performance of 'new' measuring devices in comparison to the devices commonly used?; is it possible to transform the friction and texture to an International Friction Index (IFI)? The statistical analyses of the data to answer these questions are described.
