Morphological behaviour of the deeper part of the Holland Coast
Current coastal policy in the Netherlands is to maintain the coast to a depth of NAP -20m. Most studies however, focussed on the shallow part, above NAP -8m. Therefore a literature overview of existing knowledge of the deeper part of the Holland coast is made. Also, recent JARKUS-data is used to determine trends in volume changes for the zone NAP -8/-12m and -1/-8m. Our knowledge of the entire coastal system is to limited to determine whether our policy is sustainable on a time scale of 100-200 years. The trends of volume changes show that nourishments in the shallow zone also affect the deeper zone. Natural changes in the zone NAP -1/-12 m are unaffected by the nourishments and lie around a yearly loss of 1.5-2 Mm3.
