Flood risk information for the financial sector : An improvement agenda for modelling flood risk : final report

In this report the current state is described of methods and data used to estimate flood risk caused by breaches of primary defenses. This report outlines the available data on flood scenarios, failure probabilities of levees, and methods for applying this data to various decision-making problems. The available data has primarily been developed to assess safety standards based on a flood risk approach, but it can also be utilized for other purposes. However, the method used for risk analysis to evaluate safety standards (per levee section) may result in an overestimation of the actual risk.

The focus of this report is the use of the data for the financial sector. Challenges how to deal with the current data and underlying assumptions are discussed and how to apply these data in flood risk modeling for the financial sector. Also an agenda will be presented to improve the dataset and method for the financial sector. The report is a result of a desk study in combination with a workshop with representatives from both the financial sector and the flood risk sector
