Optical component MAC Europe optical data report Flevoland 1991
The test site was located in Southern Flevoland, an agricultural area reclaimed from lake "IJsselmeer" in 1966. The test site comprised of a total of ten parcels (lots), 45 to 60 ha in extension, each of it leased to an individual farmer. Every parcel was subdivided by the leaseholder in different fields with changing crops. Main crops were sugar beet, potatoes and winter wheat, but maize, beans, peas, onions, flax and grass were also grown in a lesser extent. Except for a few cases, all different fields within one parcel were grown with one cultivar and every farmer had only one field of a certain crop type. Due to hailstorms and night-frost damage of the sugar beet in April '91 some of the sugar beet fields were sown for the second time in late April with a different cultivar. During the growing season of 1991 a selection of crops was regularly monitored in the field from the end of May until the end of October. The directional vertical reflectance of the crops was measured and a description of the main crop parameters was provided. The selected crops were sugar beet, potatoes, wheat and maize.
