The status and use of bioassays for the assessment of contaminated sediments in the Netherlands

Gives in a short view the general Dutch vision on the additional value of using bioassays for the assessment of contaminated sediments. This paper aims to highlight the current status and developments in the use of bioassays for this purpose in the Netherlands, especially with emphasis on the use as a tool to decide between free or confined disposal of dredged sediment. Furthermore, the possible developments for the coming decade are anticipated.
