Water quality modelling in the Netherlands
This paper describes environmental modelling activities carried out in the Netherlands. The activities concern the rivers Rhine and Meuse, which are the main sources of fresh water supply. The water quality modelling of the largest Dutch fresh water lake, the IJssellake is described. The modelling efforts concerning the canals and lakes supplying water for Agricultural use are considered. Special attention is given to the modelling of nutrients because of the serious eutrophication problems in the Dutch waters. Some illustrative results and policy conclusions are presented.
