Designing island shores and ecotopes in relation to marine and bird communities : options for an airport in the North Sea

Discusses the sea-defence structures around an island in the North Sea on which an airport could be located. Attempts to estimate the development of biological communities related to these structures in order to maximise the natural value of the sea defences and to determine the species and quantities of birds which are attracted by the sea defences and their communities.
