Non-hydrostatic modelling of free surface flows

The aim of this report is to clarify the present status concerning non-hydrostatic modelling of free surface flows and to derive recommendations for future research. The following aspects are adressed in this report: - an inventory of the application areas in which inclusion of non-hydrostatic effect in the numerical models is expected to yield considerable improvement, - a description of the current status of the presently available non-hydrostatic models at WL Delft Hydraulics, - the question whether a universal non-hydrostatic model is possible and which model to apply in given circumstances, and finally conclusions and recommendations for future research are given.
