Suitability of decision support tools for collaborative planning processes in water resources management
The inclusion of public participation and the appearance of collaborative decision-making has led to the development of Decision Support Systems (DSS) and other tools to support decision-making. These tools vary significantly in character and scope. Some ar more restricted than they appear at first sight ; most claim to be useful in collaborative processes. The present study aims to evaluate the suitability of various decision support tools in collaborative decision processes. Which computer-aided decision supoort tools are best use for different phases in the decision-making process, for different participants (users) and for different objectives? Evaluation criteria are suggested and applied to diverse subset of decision support tools, mostly developed in the Netherlands. The resulting conclusions can help those who are planning collaborative decision.
