Integration of video techniques in the DTM architecture
Dynamic Traffic Management (DTM) relies heaviliy on information technology to gather information about the traffic and inform road users before and during their trip. Different types of applications will be included in DTM. To integrate all these applications a flexible architecture for the Integrated Road Transport Environment (IRTE) is needed. In this report the position of video techniques within such an IRTE is studied. The different applications that can make use of a video system are described: measurement of vehicle parameters ; incident detection ; vehicle identification ; remote surveillance. The functional analysis of these applications is given. Subsequently, the services of the reference model in which video technology can be applied are identified.
