Impacts of Maasvlakte 2 on the Wadden Sea and North Sea coastal zone : track 1: detailed modelling research : part I: hydrodynamics
Based on the recent verdict by the Raad van State with respect to the Maasvlakte 2 (MV2), the Port of Rotterdam (HbR) and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (RIKZ) has requested additional studies on the impact of the extended Maasvlakte land reclamation towards the Wadden Sea. The overall aim of the study is to quantify and explain the effects of the Maasvlakte 2 extension on the fine sediment dynamics, nutrients, primary production and fish larvae in the Dutch coastal zone and Wadden Sea, utilising all available knowledge and state-of-the-art modelling tools. Assessing the effects of the Maasvlakte extension variants on the northward transport of sediment, nutrients, and fish larvae requires accurate simulation of water flows and of the Rhine River plume in particular, near the Haringvliet, the Maasvlakte and along the Dutch coastal zone.
