Waterbirds in the Rhine Valley in 1999/2000 with a summary of trends in 1980-2000

As part of the next 'Statusbericht Rhein 2000', this report presents the 2nd review of waterbirds in the international Rhine Valley. In addition to the previous report, the results in this report not only include January counts, but also cover November and March. As waterbird occurrence is dynamic throughout winter, this enables a much more comprehensive review of the status of waterbirds in the Rhine Valley. Besides, trends for January 1981-2000 have been analysed in order to assess population developments of waterbirds in the different sections of the Rhine Valley . They provide the first overview of population changes for the Rhine Valley as a whole.
