The RALLY project : remote sensing of algal blooms in Lake IJssel : integration with in situ data and computational modelling

Timely warning for harmful algal blooms is essential because of the potential risk of the toxic algae for humans and the lake ecosystem. Remote sensing of water bodies does have the potential to yield such a warning. The development of bloom forecasts should start with showing the potential of remote sensing to yield accurate nowcasts of the distribution and abundance of algae.
