Morphodynamics at the Egmond beach : scientific report KUST*2000 - EU*COAST3D : final report
The present report presents the results and ideas about the morphodynamics of the sandy beach near Egmond, the Netherlands. The morphodynamics, defined as the mutual interactions between the hydrodynamics, the sediment transport processes and the morphological changes, are studied on the intertidal beach and in the inner nearshore zone. Special attention is paid to: The beach face adjustments and swash dynamics near the water line which act on a temporal scale of minutes to hours ; The short-term intertidal bar behaviour and related circulation patterns through intertidal feeder- and rip channels which act on a temporal scale of hours to weeks ; The long-term intertidal bar behaviour and rip channel observations which act on a temporal scale of days to years ; Detailed sediment transport processes over the inner nearshore bar which are followed at distinct days at about five cross-shore locations.
