Calibration and uncertainty analysis of environmental models : model calibration : problem statement, solution method and implementation manual

A basic mathematical statement of the problem is considered, with a number of relevant extensions (concerning stochasticity, multiobjectivity and multiextremality issues). The underlying assumtions are discussed that lead to the optimization paradigm suggested. In the remainder of the report the issue of multiextremality of the calibration problem is considered in detail. The main features of an appropriate solution procedure are highlighted.
