The measurement of the photometric properties of variable message signs according to the draft CEN standard

In July 1997 a draft European Standard (CEN standard prEN 12966) was completed on the Variable Message Signs (VMS). The standard contains the photometric requirements and the corresponding test methods. The tests are performed on so-called test modules in stead of employing real signs. In order to examine the intelligibility and the feasibility of the test methods, a set of test modules of different manufacturers was measured according the test procedures of the draft CEN standard. This resulted in the present proposal for modification of the CEN standard.
