Morphology, naturally
Currently, a great deal of attention is being devoted to large-scale redevelopment of floodplains: interventions for the purpose of flood prevention, and allowing the river to perform as many of its functions as well as possible. Providing habitats to support diverse ecosystems is one of these river functions. After all, many nature areas located in floodplains were created by morphological processes. It would be important to know, therefore, what morphological processes formed these natural features and whether these processes can still occur now that rivers have been subjected to so many interventions. This report indicates where these processes are still occurring and how we might stimulate them.
