Project 'SPECOMPACT' : Cyclic Tri-axial Testing of four asphaltic mixes
"SPECOMPACT" (Specifications for Compactions) is an international project, which was subsidied by the EC. Within the project the Road and Hydraulic Engineering Division of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management (RWS, DWW) was responsible for the following items: the preparation of a Dutch porous asphalt mix (PA 0/11); the Marshall compaction of four asphalt mixes (AC French asphalt concrete, SMA German stone mastic asphalt, HRA English hot rolled asphalt and PA Dutch porous asphalt); the results of tri-axial tests carried on three asphalt mixes (AC, SMA and HRA) compacted in different ways (Marshall, Vibrating hammer, Gyrator, Sliding plate, Tyre compaction). The main item was the cyclic tri-axial (cyclic creep) tests on the different compacted asphalt mixes. Conditions, results and conclusions are given.
