Framework for harmonised implementation of variable message signs in Europe : [WERD/DERD action FIVE] : final version 3.0

Description of the results of the FIVE (Framework for harmonised Implementation of VSM in Europe) action: basic rules for the presentation methods on Variable Message Signs (VMS). This framework is mean for the TERN (Trans European Road Network) and other motorways and aims at improving the way the road user understand the messages which are being used in unexpected and variable circumstances. A better understanding of?user perception? of especially international road users, which have a language problem when texts are being used, should lead to higher safety, more effective road use and better driver comfort.
