Safety at sea - report A3 : development of a simple classification scheme for the toxicity of crude oils

A classification system for the crude oil behavior is constructed based on the Impact Reference System (IRS) developed by O?Sullivan and Jacques (2001). The system is based on environmental behaviour and it is synchronous with the previously constructed classification systems for crude oil. According to IRS system, three classes for crude oil are being recognized: 1. Light crude oil (low density, high toxicity): API gravity > 40
