Feasibility of surface algal bloom detection with NOAA-AVHRR imagery
After an introductory chapter, this report continues with a discussion about the detectability of algae with optical remote sensing in chapter 2. The effects of the algae on the water colour are analyzed. It is also studied whether the optical effects of algae are strong enough to make them visible on NOAA data, regarding the characteristics of this instrument. Chapter 3 presents the research method used in this project and the available tools. In addition to NOAA, other optical instruments were used. In accordance with the research method, a number of experiments have been carried out. The results are discussed in chapter 4. Finally, in chapter 5 conclusions and recommendations for further research are presented.
