Impact of sea level rise on society : a case study for the Netherlands : final report
First the design analysis of the ISOS model (Impact of Sea Level on Society) is presented at a conceptual level. Then there is an compilation of information resulting from the various studies concerning the physical characteristics, possible measures and impacts of the following subsystems: land, coastal zone, estuaries and coastal seas (Wadden Sea and Delta area) lower rivers, upper rivers and lakes (IJssel and Marken). After an implementation of the model (inputs are given by the climate scenario and the strategy) there follows the set up and outcome of the analysis (raising of dikes, flood prone areas, water management, salinity and groundwater levels and morphological and ecological changes in some subsystems, including the effect of sand-mining). Finally the conclusions are discussed and recommendations are given.
