Inventory of wheel loadings and tyre inflation pressures in practice : measurements within framework of COST-334
Reports and interpretates the inventory of wheel loadings and tyre inflation pressures, carried out on various tyre configurations on trucks and articulated vehicles between March and the end of June 1999. This research is part of the Dutch contribution to the European working group COST 334, whose objective is to prepare a cost/benefit analysis of the effects of the application of wide base single and dual tyres at a European level. The test objective of the inventory is to gain insight into the distribution of wheel loading and tyre pressure on tyres of one axle. Attention is specifically focused on the differences between the inner and outer tyre of a dual wheel assembly. Possible causes are the differences in tyre pressure and diameter between the inner and outer tyre. The final results of the inventory are aimed at establishing the effect of the various tyre configurations on road surfaces with respect to pavement damage, maintenance, costs, and suchlike.
