MEDUSA metingen met de WESP = A feasibility study to measure grain size and desity variations on the foreshore and beach using a combination of WESP en MEDUSA

Presents results from a feasibility study concerning the coupling of the MEDUSA system to the WESP survey equipment of Rijkswaterstaat. In the test survey, the beach and shallow waters close to Egmond aan Zee were mapped out in terms of sediment density (by measurement of natural radioactivity) and grain size (by measurement of friction-induced noise). The results indicate that MEDUSA is sensitive enough to monitor foreshore areas. In these, considerable (order of magnitude) variations were found in total activity, radionuclide concentration and sound intensity. Therefore it is concluded that MEDUSA could be a valuable add-on to the standard WESP survey equipment.
