Long distance travel study report of surveys

The surveys described in this report are the culmination of a wide-ranging programme of data collection and analysis which commenced in 1979 during the initial study of a long distance travel model. In the subsequent first phase of the main study, in-depth interviews with some 200 households were carried out, and existing long distance journey data carefully analysed. After a period of discussion and negotiation the second phase of the main study commenced in 1982, the survey programme having been divided into two seperate parts. A common survey method was adopted in three corridors, using the standard survey procedure of the Dienst Verkeerskunde (DVK). The survey approach on the trains was similar. Each section of the report explains a particular aspects of the survey.
