On the numerical calculation of dispersion of constituents in estuaries and coastal seas

Discussed are two numerical techniques that are particularly suited for the calculation of the transport of pollutants in realistic simulations. These methods are among the best in the resolution of sharp gradients on a relatively coarse grid, without generating significant negative concentrations. The outcome of a test with an exact solution will be shown. Moreover, a result of a realistic application is given in the Dutch Keeten-Volkerak model by means of the operational WAQUA simulation model.
