Overview of historical pits, trenches and dumpsites on the NCS

Gives an overview of ten historical sand extraction pits, trenches and dump sites on the Netherlands Continental Shelf (NCS), which were monitored during a certain time after construction. The measurements give important information about the characteristic time scale of backfilling, the migration speed, but also about the recovery of benthic communities, which were removed by an extraction. Moreover, these measurements were valuable material for hindcast studies with morphological models.
