Water management of urban areas in the Flevopolders

In the development of the polder Eastern Flevoland the construction of new towns came to the fore with special problems regarding aspects like: how to prepare the building sites; how to develop and design the draining system in the new towns; how to determine the requirements for designing a drainage system for an agricultural area connected with large urban surfaces. For the purpose of urban building in the Flevopolders it is customary to raise the level of building sites with 1.0 m of sand using hydraulic landfill techniques and to install a drainage system.The water management system in the urban areas consist of municipal canals, sewers and subsurface drain-pipes. In this report the water management system of the urban areas in the Flevopolders is described.
