Under pressure 1995 : the condition of the Dutch river dikes during the flood period of January-February 1995

Flood report describing the main technical events, which occurred during the flood of January-February 1995 in the Netherlands. The report is limited to the river dikes along the Rhine and the lower parts of the Meuse. The following subjects are discussed: water levels; flood plains and unprotected areas; weather conditions; organisation and communication; ideas from the public. Observations and recommendations by the Technical Advisory Committee on Water Retaining Structures (TAW) are presented.
