Collision m.v. Eleni V : measures employed by the Smal Agt to combat oil spill from the after part : 7-9 May 1978
On Saturday, 6 May 1978, the Greek tanker Eleni V broke in two as the result of a collision. The forward part of the ship was towed aground by an English tugboat off the coast near Great Yarmouth. The after part, which included the bridge, was towed by three Dutch tugboats to the roads of Hook of Holland, after permission had been given by the North Sea Directorate of the Public Works Department, which took into account that the quantity of oil escaping from the after part amounted to no more than 500 to 1.000 litres per hour and that there was an offshore wind. The oil combatting vessel Smal Agt sailed to meet the tow on 7 May in order to deal with the oil that had escaped. This report records the measures that were taken to limit as far as possible the effects of the oil pollution. See also Report no. NZ-R-78.014, entitled: Aanvaring m.s. Eleni V : oliebestrijdingsaktie Smal Agt 29 t/m 31 mei 1978.
