Literature review of land use models
The current version of TIGRIS (Transport Infrastructuur Grondgebruik Interactie Simulatie) is a dynamic spatial allocation model, which models the interaction between land use and transportation. It has been developed as part of the Struwin-project in 1994. The TIGRIS model operates at an (inter-) regional level and can be considered as a strategic model. This literature review is part of a project that will set out recommendations to improve the current version of the TIGRIS model. The overall project is split into three subprojects: a literature review on land use models with respect to TIGRIS, carried out by RAND and presented in this report ; an inventarisation of data sources to calibrate the TIGRIS model, done by MuConsult ; and preliminary research to implement a theoretical, economic foundation into TIGRIS, carried out by the Free University of Amsterdam. This literature review presents a quick scan of seven international state-of-the-art land use transportation interaction models, and several relevant models operational in The Netherlands. Three models, IRPUD, Urbansim, and MEPLAN, are described in greater detail, especially relevant features for a new TIGRIS model. It ends with a specification of the requirements for a transport model for the new TIGRIS, and an outline of this transport model.
