Sustainable transport : studying new dimensions : the possibilities of tunnel transport
Besides the decrease of mobility and the improvement of the existing transport systems, more sustainable systems can be a clear basis for our transport and traffic policy, which is aimed at balancing livability, accessibility and mobility. Tunnel transport is an example of a sustainable transport system. The possibilities of tunnel transport are elaborated in a rough plan for a tunnel transport system for the (medium) long term, between European industrial areas (macrodistricts). This plan shows that there are possibilities for more sustainable transport systems.
