Hindcast Amelander Zeegat storms January and March 2007

This report describes the results and analysis of SWAN hindcast calculations of three mainly westerly storms that passed over the Wadden Sea in January and March 2007. The present study is a revision of the study by Royal Haskoning (2007), which used water level and current fields computed with the WAQUA hydrodynamic model. After the SWAN hindcast calculations and subsequent analysis were carried out, see Royal Haskoning (2007), the WAQUA water levels and currents were found to be incorrect, see Deltares (2008a). An incomplete set of wind input fields was used in the WAQUA hydrodynamic calculations in the Amelander Zeegat (inherently the model is capable of computing the wind-driven currents). To remove this deficiency and in order to improve the validity of the hindcast study and its conclusions, the ambient hydrodynamic conditions were recalculated using the Delft3D model, see Deltares (2008b). The present report presents the recomputed hindcast results of the SWAN calculations using the Delft3D water levels and current fields.
