The analysis and design of hydraulic structures : extreme events
Contains 8 papers on the study and control of floods; erosion and environmental impacts are summarised. The papers treat river and coastal problems. In addition it is pointed out that for a succesful result the failure mechanisms containing both loading and resistance have to be identified. The fault tree is advised as a tool to relate the failure mechanisms to each other. Finally it is stressed that rivers and coasts are formed by processes striving for equilibrium.
